Physiotherapy and Cognitive Behavioural Therapy

A 32-year-old hospital van driver was involved in a road accident, where his van struck and killed a pedestrian. No blame was attached to the van driver, who sustained strain injuries to both wrists, but he subsequently suffered with Post Traumatic Stress Disorder.

He was assigned a case manager, and after assessment, an action plan was agreed. His case manager referred him to the physiotherapist with whom he had three sessions for his wrist injuries.

The case manager also referred him to a cognitive behavioural therapist for help with his Post Traumatic Stress Disorder.

Throughout his programme of intervention, his case manager contacted him weekly to ensure that his needs were being met, and liaised directly with his line manager.

After six sessions with the cognitive behavioural therapist he returned to work and remained at work without any problem.
