Occupational Therapy

A 46-year-old employee was referred to OHSxtra because he had been off sick for several weeks following a work-related shoulder injury.

He was assigned a case manager and after an initial assessment an action plan was agreed on. The case manager referred the client for an occupational therapy evaluation to assess his current work abilities to determine his suitability to perform his current work duties.

The occupational therapist completed a ‘Work Ability Evaluation and Career Search Evaluation’. Modifications to the workplace and changes in work patterns were recommended following this. A graded return to work allowed him to gradually mobilise and strengthen his shoulder thus avoiding any further damage.

In this way, his tolerance and stamina improved and the client successfully returned to sustained safe and healthy full-time employment.
